  • Valuation from a company-approved valuer.

  • Proof of income of applicant and guarantors; if documents are unavailable, a cash flow analysis from discussion and onsite inspection will be considered.

Yes. This would be decided based on your cash flow analysis.

Yes. We always encourage paying future rentals in advance. However, if you delay your monthly rentals, a default fee will be added automatically.

Yes. You must pay the full outstanding amount on your contract at the time you wish to terminate.

A default payment fee will be added for the non-payment period. Please contact your branch recovery officer directly if you are having difficulty paying an instalment.

Yes. The company is the legal owner of the asset, so it must be insured. Our subsidiary People's Insurance PLC can provide comprehensive insurance, or you are free to choose your own insurer that is acceptable to us.

Fixed Deposits

30 Questions

Individual:

  • Any citizen of Sri Lanka or Residential Visa holder over 18 years of age, holding a valid NIC / Driving License / Valid Passport.
  • A person holding dual citizenship.

Corporate & Other Institutions:

  • Corporate and other institutions registered in Sri Lanka (i.e. Partnership firms, Private and Public Limited Companies, Specified Associations, Societies, Trusts).
  • Rs. 10,000/= for maturity deposits (interest payable at maturity).
  • Rs. 100,000/= for monthly deposits (interest payable monthly).

Tenors starting from 1 month to 2, 3, 6, 12, 13, 15, 18, 24, 36, 48, and 60 months in duration.

At present, there are no WHT deductions for Fixed Deposits. (This criterion is subject to change.)

For individuals:

  • Duly completed FD application.
  • Individual CDD form (joint applicants need separate forms).
  • Copy of NIC / Valid Passport / Valid Driving License.
  • If address differs from NIC/DL, a utility bill or bank statement issued within 3 months showing the current address.
  • Certified copy of Power of Attorney (if required).
  • Copy of nominee's NIC (if required).
  • For foreigners: copy of residential visa permit (valid for over 180 days) in addition to the passport.

For Corporate & Other Institutions:

  • Duly completed FD application.
  • Copy of the registration of the entity.
  • Corporate CDD form.
  • Individual CDD forms from Directors / Authorized signatories.
  • Certified copies of NICs of Directors / authorized signatories.
  • Certified copies of the resolutions / minutes confirming the decision to place a fixed deposit with PLC.
  • Other relevant documents as mentioned in the application form.

No.

Yes. The surviving holder can withdraw the deposit.

  • Either Party instruction: Close and redeposit under the surviving holder's name by submitting the death certificate and the original FD certificate.
  • Both Party instruction: An affidavit must be submitted in addition to the above documents.

Yes. You may nominate any person(s) as you wish. If nominating more than one person, indicate each person's share; otherwise, equal shares will be assumed. The full name(s) and identification (NIC/Passport/DL) of nominees must be submitted.

If a nominee is available:

  • Original FD certificate.
  • Certified copy (or original) of the death certificate.
  • Identification of the nominee.
  • Duly completed affidavit by the nominee (company format provided).
  • Instruction letter from the nominee.

If no nominee:

  • Certified copy (or original) of the death certificate.
  • Original FD certificate.
  • Duly completed affidavit (company format provided).
  • NIC copy of the claiming party.
  • Request letter from the claiming party.
  • Declaration from Grama Sevaka and AGA office confirming family details.
  • Marriage certificate of the deceased (if married).
  • NIC and birth certificate copies of family members.
  • No-objection letters in affidavit format from all parties involved.
  • Either Party: Any deposit holder can operate.
  • Both Party: Both parties must be involved for any operation.

To change the operating instructions, both parties must provide a consent letter.

Yes. The original power of attorney must be submitted at the time of opening the account.

To prevent identity theft, identity fraud, money laundering, and terrorist financing. The Central Bank of Sri Lanka has directed all banks and financial institutions to complete a CDD form before opening a deposit.

Yes. Under Section 61 of the Finance Business Act No. 42 of 2011, strict confidentiality must be observed by all officers of the company regarding all customer transactions, unless disclosure is required by a court of law or in compliance with any other written law.

PLC reserves the right to reject the deposit.

For a new deposit, the mandate provides provision for nomination. For all subsequent changes, a written confirmation from the depositor(s) is required.

Yes. You will receive a certificate including the deposit number, date of deposit, date of maturity, value of deposit, depositor names with identity details, mode of interest payment, and governing terms and conditions.

You may request a duplicate certificate by submitting a request letter from the depositor(s) and a duly perfected affidavit attested by a Notary/JP. A specimen affidavit can be obtained from the company.

No. Once the deposit is placed, the agreed interest rate will not change until maturity.

No. The rate for a premature withdrawal will be decided by the company.

You may deposit at any PLC branch by cash, direct fund transfer to a PLC designated People's Bank account, or cheque/bank draft in favour of "People's Leasing & Finance PLC O/A of [deposit holder's name]".

No. Additional payments can only be made at the date of maturity. Alternatively, you can open a new fixed deposit.

Yes, at any time. However, you can also obtain a Self-e-cash Loan against your deposit without withdrawing it.

Customers who are 60 years of age or above are eligible for a PLC Senior Citizens fixed deposit.

No. At the time of opening the deposit, all joint holders must have completed the age of 60 years.

An automated SMS is sent 3 days in advance of the maturity date.

If you wish to change the deposit period, partially withdraw, or add to the deposit, prior notice is required or you may visit the nearest PLC branch on the maturity date with the FD certificate. If no action is taken, the system will automatically renew the deposit for the same period at the prevailing FD rates.

Surrender the original FD certificate duly discharged with payment instructions. Refund can be made by cash, cheque, or remittance to a bank account of the deposit holder(s).

Yes. The same procedure applies as for a full premature withdrawal. The remaining balance will be renewed on the date of withdrawal at prevailing rates.

Savings & Self-e-cash

11 Questions

This is a temporary loan against your deposit that allows customers to pledge their fixed deposit(s) and obtain loans when desired.

Ranging from 75% to 90% of the capital value, depending on the category of the deposit.

An additional 3% above the contracted deposit rate will be charged. The rate may change at the discretion of the company, and interest is calculated on a daily basis.

You can withdraw from any PLC branch counter during office hours, or from People's Bank or other bank ATMs up to Rs. 100,000/= per day (24×7). You can also do online fund transfers via PLC Online up to Rs. 1 million, or submit a request letter to a branch for over Rs. 1 million.

  • Rs. 3/= per transaction at People's Bank ATMs.
  • Rs. 30/= per transaction at other bank ATMs.

  • Issuance fee: LKR 300/=
  • Annual fee: Rs. 200/=

Yes. For Normal / Senior Citizen savings accounts, a minimum balance of Rs. 1,000/= must be maintained. A fee of Rs. 25/= will be charged on inactive accounts with a balance of Rs. 1,000/= or less. The account will be automatically closed when the balance reaches zero.

Submit a written request letter with the original savings passbook and your NIC to the nearest PLC branch. For cash withdrawal, you must visit the branch where the account was opened, or submit the documents to any branch and receive an A/C payee cheque.

  • After 1 year without any transaction: account is classified as inactive. Reactivation on customer's request.
  • After 10 years without any transaction: account is classified as dormant. Reactivation on customer's request.

Request a duplicate passbook by submitting a request letter from the depositor(s) and a duly perfected affidavit attested by a Notary/JP. A specimen affidavit can be obtained from the company.

Senehasa Minor Savings

6 Questions

Any citizen of Sri Lanka or Residential Visa holder below 18 years of age.

The account can be opened by a parent or legal guardian of a child below 18 years of age with the following:

  • Minimum opening deposit of Rs. 250/=.
  • Child's original Birth Certificate.
  • Original NIC / Valid Passport / Driving License (with NIC number) of the Parent / Legal Guardian.

No. There is no minimum balance requirement for minor savings accounts.

The holder can submit their NIC and minor savings passbook with a consent letter to close the minor account and open a Super Savings account. Alternatively, the funds can be withdrawn by cash or cheque.

No, except in special circumstances for the child's benefit (e.g. education, medical expenses) with supporting documents. Funds may also be transferred to the minor's account at another bank after 5 years from the date of the first deposit, by cheque drawn in the minor's favour.

Premier Reward Plan

9 Questions

A product designed for customers to set aside a fixed monthly amount ("fixed monthly instalment") to achieve a target amount at the end of an agreed period ranging from a minimum of 2 years to a maximum of 5 years.

  • A citizen of Sri Lanka above 18 years of age holding a valid NIC / Passport or Driving License.
  • A person holding dual citizenship.

You can start with a minimum of Rs. 1,000/= per month.

You may deposit an initial amount as you wish, but it is not mandatory.

You can pay over the counter at any PLC branch, via Standing Orders, E-Banking, or CEFT transfers.

If the monthly investment amount is not deposited for three (3) consecutive months, the interest rate will be converted to the Regular Savings Account rate.

Yes. You will receive a certificate including the reference number, date of deposit, date of maturity, maturity value of the plan, depositor names with identity details, and governing terms and conditions.

Via the PLC Online App or by contacting any PLC branch.

No. The prevailing Super Savings interest rate will be applied for premature withdrawals.

  • PLC-to-PLC account transfers: immediately.

Once you confirm a transfer, PLC Online provides an electronic receipt with all essential details, emailed to your registered email address. An SMS is also sent to your registered mobile number. The Reference Number and date can be used for future enquiries.

You will not be able to stop or cancel payments made "immediately". As an exception, you may call the contact centre for further assistance on reversals.

You can view and access transactions from the date the account was opened.

You can change your password via the "Change your password" option. However, you cannot change your User ID.

You must add the new facility yourself using the "Add Facilities" option in the main menu.

Yes. Use the "Remove Facilities" option in the main menu at any time.

You must first visit the nearest PLC branch to open the Self-e-cash account. After that, you can manage transfers through PLC Online.

Use the "Fund Transfer" option in the main menu to transfer funds within your own accounts, to any other PLC accounts, or to other bank accounts.

Go to Add Payee List under Pay Bills, or follow the link in your PLC Online dashboard.
